Subject: The "City" of Somers Point turns 100 in 2002.

The City of Somers Point is turning 100 years old next year and they are planning on making it a yearlong celebration. For that matter they are planning on getting start before 2002 arrives. On December 9 the Somers Point Centennial Celebration Committee will sponsor "Once Upon a Christmas". This play will not be staged in your usual way but it will be stage in a uniquely Somers Point fashion. The play will travel to four different porches in the historic Bay Avenue District and at each porch a different act will be performed. The first act will be kicked off at 31 Somers Ave. It will then proceed to 829 Bay Ave. Intermission will be held on the porch of the Anchorage Tavern and then the 3rd act will be staged at 28 Delaware Ave. with the final act will be held at 21 Delaware Ave. Tickets are $5 for adult or children. An adult must accompany children under 16. Tickets are available at City Hall, The Somers Point Public Library and the Somers Point Community Education and Recreation Office at Jordan Road School. Only 100 tickets will be sold and there will be limited seating at each venue.

The Foundation for Education, Somers Point, NJ will host the next centennial event when they host the Centennial Ball at Greate Bay Country Club on February 8 from 6:00 until 11:30 p.m. The Ball will feature a silent auction and entertainment will be provided by the Kenny i Orchestra. Tickets for this activity are $85 and can be obtained by calling the Community Education and Recreation Office at 927-7161 x 256.
