Chief
William H. Morrow Memorial Fund
Few
people are more revered in Somers Point than the late Bill Morrow.
From the 1930's through the mid-1960's, Bill served our city as its
long-time Chief of Police and later as our elected representative on the
Atlantic County Board of Supervisors.
Yet his most lasting contribution was to the youth of the city.
He founded the Boys and Girls Club and guided it until the day he
died. He encouraged the participation of every child irrespective
of age, size, or athletic ability. And most importantly he emphasized a
set of values that, then like now, are fundamental to success in sports,
in school, and in life. Even
today "The Chief", as he was affectionately known to children
and adults alike, remains a towering figure in the lives of Somers Point
youth, and in the annals of the city itself. The Somers Point beach is
permanently named in his honor.
The Chief William H. Morrow Memorial Fund committee is attempting
to raise money. This money
will be used to fund the scholarship program in Bill's name, serving as a
living legacy among a new generation of Somers Point high school
graduates. Funds raised will
also be used to send deserving children to summer camp. 2002 information forthcoming.
All checks should be made payable to "The Chief Morrow
Memorial Fund" and should be mailed to Phil Huber at 35 West
Groveland Avenue, Somers Point, NJ 08244.
Phil can also be reached at (609) 927-2604.
