Conover's Market 1940's

L to R: Orville Mathis (my cousin) Joanna Conover (my grandmother and owner) Forrest Conover, (my uncle), Edgar Conover (my father). Joanna and Chester Conover opened the store in 1916 and the address was 759 Shore Road. My uncle Forrest handled the meat side, my father the grocery side. Orville cut meats and made deliveries. I did deliveries in the summer during high school (1949).

My father sold the grocery side to his brother Forrest in approx 1952, the store was divided and a hair dresser took over what was the grocery side. Fred Rest made bread deliveries to the store. I think it was Bond and Fischer. Also the store was a collector of utility electric utility bills.

The corner is now occupied by the Police Station.
